Insolation is the name given to all forms energy received by the earth ,from the sun,by the process of radiation.insolation includes includes light,heat,ultra-violet rays, infra red rays etc.
Insolation comes in the form of energy of very short wave length .energy of such short wavelength has the property of passing through transparent media without heating the media. Insolation,therefore,passes through the earth's atmosphere without heating it.
